Katherine Bradford: Superman Returns, Galerie Haverkampf, Berlin, Germany, September 9–October 7, 2017

Superman, a male hero, appears in these pictures as a genderless little creature. And so these blue and red worms populate the images of Katherine Bradford. They fly to the heights of the atmosphere, resting on the lawn or cooling their feet in the pool. Like Bradford's spacial favorite people bathing and swimming, they float in the water, jumping from the tower or dipping into a wave, they all seem to have a good time.

What makes a modern superhero? They can be both a woman and a man, they don’t seem to be in a hurry, they are more human, they are vulnerable, they are a mirror of the expectations we have of ourselves, to be human, to be free, to have the wonderful gift: to be able to fly and to float.

Katherine Bradford (*1942 in New York, NY lives and works in Brooklyn NY). Philipp Haverkampf is pleased to offer the audience in Berlin a small, but very fine possibility to make the acquaintance of Katherine Bradford’s work.
